Mystic Marine electric winch

small electric winchThis small electric winch was made to pull a 4000 pound boat up onto its trailer. It can run on a 12 volt battery and it has 20 feet of cable.

I'm thinking if it was mounted to a sturdy garden cart with a small lawn mower battery it might have enough power to pull a loaded cart of firewood up a steep hillside. Mystic Marine has them on sale for just over 12 bucks with only an extra 10 for shipping.

Stay tuned to see if this idea makes it off the drawing board, or put one together yourself and send me a picture of how awesome it is.

Sounds like a good idea, and for a bit over $20 you can find out. Be careful where you stand while using the winch and applying a heavy load to the cable, if anything gives way a whipping effect of steel cable is to be avoided. BTW, I enjoy the WaldenEffect. 2 good heads up from Mark. The Field Lab and Dinosaurs and Robots. It is cold for Baton Rouge, 25 last night.

Thanks for commenting Gary. I agree, anytime you reach the maximum tension on a cable or rope the sudden release of potential energy can really ruin your day if you don't get out of the way quick enough.

"can really ruin your day"
