The Walden Effect: Farming, simple living, permaculture, and invention.

Super secret Walden Effect hangout

Goat lounging porch

Wanna hang out with the cool kids? A writer friend and I joined up to create a super secret facebook hangout for other homesteaders (and homesteaders-to-be).

This is a spot where you can chat with each other rather than listening to me ramble on indefinitely about Artemesia and organic matter. There've been some inspiring photos and great posts by our initial members and I look forward to seeing what you have to say.

Want to join in? Just follow the link above and click the "Join" button. Either Jill or I will let you in as soon as we notice your request. Looking forward to seeing you over there.

About us: Anna Hess and Mark Hamilton spent over a decade living self-sufficiently in the mountains of Virginia before moving north to start over from scratch in the foothills of Ohio. They've experimented with permaculture, no-till gardening, trailersteading, home-based microbusinesses and much more, writing about their adventures in both blogs and books.

The only "secret" on facebook is them invalidating your privacy settings without telling you about it.

The not-so-secret is that on facebook you are for sale.

So facebook? Best avoided.

:( What about those of us who detest FB and wouldn't go on there even if it was the only way on the planet to communicate?

NaYan and Roland --- I didn't mean to make you feel left out! I'm not posting any juicy morsels over there that I don't share here. The hangout is just for readers who already love facebook and want to interact more with each other. So if you hate facebook (and I'm not far off from there), then you won't miss not being present.

Walden Effect has basically taken over my life. Just discovered you recently and have been reading the archives from the beginning. I'm up to April 2012 and getting anxious that I am nearing the end of the archives especially at the rate I am addictively reading. Living vicariously through you as I am living in the belly of the beast (NYC) and at 71 too old to start homesteading. Wish I'd done it years ago.

Love what you are doing and your clear rational explanations. Love Mark's projects although I probably only understand about 10% of what he's explaining. Tool challenged.

All the best to you and happy spring. Suzan in NYC
