Adrianne (aka Mom) is Anna's mother.  She was born and raised in Massachusetts, but came south during the back-to-the-land movement in the 1970s and ended up on a farm in Virginia where she raised her three children.  She canned five gallon pails of tomatoes and corn from the garden while eight months pregnant with one daughter and cut down a Christmas tree the day before giving birth to the other.  (She also dropped Anna in a flooded creek when Anna was an infant, which might explain many things....)

Currently, Adrianne lives in a medium-sized town an hour and a half from the Walden Effect farm.  She enjoys reading tales of arctic explorations gone terribly wrong, growing her own vegetables, and keeping an eye on her three children.
